A sister learns that her estranged brother is deep into heroin, and she has access to a drug that could make him stop wanting it. That is the hook of Fix, a Québec short we watched as part of our coverage of the 2026 Fantasia International Film Festival. We are still thinking about it.
What Is Fix About? The Setup Behind Patrick LeMay’s Fantasia 2026 Short
Fix is directed by Patrick LeMay, who co-wrote the script with Robert D’Entremont. D’Entremont also stars as Damian, a man who has slipped into severe heroin use and drifted away from his family. His sister Victoria works for a big pharmaceutical company. When she finds out how bad things have gotten, she decides to step in (without telling him, of course).
Her plan is simple and a little terrifying. She starts secretly dosing Damian with an experimental drug from her company, one that is not on the market yet. The festival synopsis calls it Eclipsa. Arthur explained how it’s meant to work:
It’s supposed to prevent you from wanting whatever your addiction is, right? It makes you feel revolted by it.
And at first, it works. Damian starts rejecting the heroin and no longer feels the need to get a fix.
But this is an experimental drug, and you can probably guess that nothing stays that tidy. Clinical trials show severe side effects, the drug gets pulled, and Victoria is left scrambling to find more. We won’t tell you how it ends. We’ll just say Fix does not take the easy way out.
The Performances and Writing in Fix
Fix runs 19 minutes. That’s it. In that short window, you get a real sense of who these siblings are, where they are in life, and how much history sits between them. Meaghan called that “pretty impressive,” and we agree; it is not something you see on a regular basis from a short film.
We think the combination of the writing and the performances is what makes it work. Victoria’s desperation feels like what a real person might do when every other option has run out. You might not agree with her choice. You understand it, though, and that is the hard part.
The script also finds room for a bit of humor in the earlier scenes. That levity matters, because the rest of the film is serious. Arthur’s description was short and accurate:
It’s a heavy short.
Meaghan landed on a phrase we keep coming back to:
It’s beautifully sort of sad.
How Fix Handles Addiction Without Exploiting It
If you have ever watched someone you love struggle with substance abuse, you know the damage never stays with just one person. Fix gets that. The film shows what addiction does to the person using and to the family members and friends around them. The estrangement between Damian and Victoria is as much a part of the story as the drug itself.
What stood out most to us is how much respect the filmmakers show the subject. Meaghan said it clearly:
They didn’t treat it lightly or as fodder for the horror that takes place. They did treat it as a serious issue, and it’s something that really runs through the entirety of the film.
That seriousness is why the darker turns land so hard. An experimental drug with dangerous consequences is scary on its own. Watching a sister realize the thing she used to save her brother might be hurting him? That is worse.

Fix Review Verdict: Is This Fantasia 2026 Short Worth Seeking Out?
Yes. Shorts at a festival this size can blur together, and a lot of them disappear from your memory by the next screening. Meaghan admitted as much:
Shorts sometimes come and go and we don’t pay attention to them once they’re gone, but this is one that I thought about after we watched it.
Arthur’s response was simple: “Yeah, and you remember it.“
Right now, Fix is doing the festival rounds, so it is not generally available. We really hope it keeps screening wherever it ends up next, and that LeMay and D’Entremont get the chance to make more. In Arthur’s words;
They really, really deserve the opportunity to do so.
So if Fix shows up anywhere near you, take his advice: “If you do see it under your radar anywhere, you should definitely check it out.“
